Obafemi Martins Named MLS Player of the Month
Sounders forward Obafemi Martins has been named Major League Soccer’s player of the week after a vote of the North American Soccer Writers, the league announced Monday.
Martins scored two goals and added an assist in Seattle’s 4-2 victory in Portland on Sunday, following up on a midweek draw against San Jose in which he provided the lone Sounders assist. With 10 goals this season, Martins is tied with strike partner Clint Dempsey for the team lead, while he is tops on the Sounders in assists, with eight. Martins was also named the MLS player of the week during Week 29 of the 2013 season, while Dempsey got the nod in the sixth and seventh weeks of this year. The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.Good one man
