Nigeria was awarded a penalty early on in the match only for Ebere to see his kick saved by Samuel, the Malian goal-keeper, and also hitting the crossbar from the rebound.

Towards the end of the first half, Mali almost took the lead when a cross from Malle was nodded on by Boubacar, but Udoh in goal for Nigeria was up to the task sending it out for a corner-kick.

The first half ended in a stalemate, leaving both sides to think of possible solutions and Nigeria ruing the penalty miss.

Nigeria started the second half on a bright note just like the first and were soon rewarded with a goal.

Chibueze Madueke found Victor Osimhen free in the box which he finished off with an inch perfect strike.

It was soon 2-nil as Chibueze Madueke again sent a pass through to Funsho Bamgboye who finished with a drive into the top corner leaving the Malian goal-keeper and defence looking in awe.

More chances were created by the Nigerians forcing Samuel to make important saves.

The Malians didn't give up hope as they pushed forward in numbers, but the Nigerian defence were not in the mood to concede.

When the whistle went at the Estadio Sausalito, new records had been set.

Kelechi Nwakali, the Nigerian captain became the first player at any level to win a FIFA tournament back-to-back.

Victor Osimhen with his strike in the 56th minute set a new goalscoring record having scored 10 goals in 7 matches and hereby surpassing Ivorian, Souleymane Coulibaly (2011) and Frenchman Florent Sinama Pongolle's (2001) tally of 9 each.
